What a large loop! Looks like a nice ride in nice weather.
PTM's line is great to ride, and I lucked out on the weather!
Gorgeous
It is a unique station
New train
Yep
I think the muni metro would be considered a pre-metro like what they have in Brussels in Belgium not a heavy rail or light rail somewhere in between
Germany wouls call it a stadtbahn. I think Light rail is the best for it.
I'm going to share your page to my Facebook I have alot of people on my friends list
Thank you!!
@@subwaymark your welcome
I did a few of these videos the ones in Seattle are huge
Nice
Even though everybody who's into transit are quick to write off the Las Vegas monorails as gadget bonds I admired the fact that you stand up for them and you actually make them look like viable forms of transportation. Keep up the good work! 👍🏽
If people use it, it's good transit.
Sounds a lot like the new Miami cars.
It's probably because the new Miami cars are from Hitachi like Honolulu's.
THAT ISNT SP&S 700, THAT IS UNION PACIFIC 844/8444!
We would have many more monorails if we didn't spend all the money on bombs and wars, and giving billions to other countries
Yeah, the Russians are now suffering cuz of one dictator.
True
Monorails makes so much sense. I don’t understand why we don’t have more of them.
Because they are expensive and slow? Americans will build anything but normal trains.
I think because people associate a monorail with an amusement park ride rather than a transit line. This despite the fact that Japan has several monorails that are hevilty used as a transit line. I believe Monorails are a quieter alternative to elevated railways, especially on tight curves. The problem of the LV monorail is its route. With the exception the the Convention Center and Westgate stations, the monorail is hidden behind hotels, with convoluted access through casinos. I hoep to do a video on it in the future.
Monorails are not more expensive than traditional rail. But like transit in general, Americans and politicians seem to prefer building large roads for cars. Vegas is not very pedestrian-friendly, as are many large cities in the South and the West. Transit needs to be pedestrian-friendly to be successful. It is unfortunate.
We aim higher and don't settle for the status quo. @@fridericusrex9812
it's because monorails make more sense with high density. they work in Japan because they built up instead of out. when there's a lot of roads to the point where they're constantly crossing each other, and ground traffic is so frequent and packed that grade crossings would cause problems, that's when you build a monorail.
This is north south line not east west line
Thanks for the correction
Actually Media is in Delaware County, not Philadelphia County, and the double-ended K-cars seen in this video are suburban trolleys that only run in Delco. The single-ended K-cars are the city trolleys that run throughout the Philadelphia area.
You are correct, and Route 101 is part of the SEPTA suburban network.
Note that one leaf of one door has the new colors.
2:35 this one has MTA NYC subway door chime R62/R62A R68/R68A and R44 and R46
I heard that too!
I railfan down bellow there lol
Nice!
i am surprised how fast they are I see them in media all the time and it seems like they go very slow
It goes through MEdia slowly due to the road traffic. But on the private right-of-way, the trolleys really do move!
I was a student @ Leeward Community College when I had super social anxiety. : - (
It is good that the college is a Skyline Train stop!
trimet systems needs some elevated portions. a downtown elevated right of way instead of a tunnel would be interesting.
Not sure a elevated would be to popular, especially with downtown Portland streets are rather narrow. Not that an elevated wouldn't fit (think Chicago).
Wow! I was an engineer for Pse&g in the 1970’s when we converted the 1890’s mercury arc rectifiers to solid state diodes for the power supply. This is great to see how far it’s come. Thank you.
Very cool!
That’s my favorite trolley
It is a great route!
OMG! Thank you for this! Not only is the Breda train you featured have the original motors before refurbishment, but the original chimes for this series! They went back and replaced that chime with the one you hear in the Rohr train at the 2:30 mark. Both chimes added a “doors closing” after this, and then were changed again with the Randi Miller redo in the early 2000’s. These sounds were my childhood in the 1980’s riding Metro. ❤
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
@@subwaymark One more thing I just noticed: at Metro Center 2:02, those station layout guides were also in Gallery Place (pre-MCI/Verizon Center) and in L'Enfant Plaza. I don't remember when they were removed but they were original to the stations when they opened. They're no longer there. I remember people used to lean on them when waiting for trains. 😆
Don't you love trains, trams, aren't they all beautiful :) come take a ride! (at folder 2, look my way)
Very nice
@@subwaymark Thank you, have a great day.
that is a e4
yes
Theres no escalators at our station, just a ramp with a tiled floor. My high heeled sandals kept slipping on those tiles until their soles were polished and very slippery.
I noticed a few stations had long ramps. It is better then stairs.
@@subwaymark Its good for wheel chairs etc, but my high heels just slip helplessly on tiled ramps.
Thank you for the video! 🤘🏻
No problem!
When I first saw the WES trains, I figured that they were bought second hand from some European transit agency that had been operating them since either the 60's or 70's. I wonder if the reason they don't operate every 10, 15, or 20 minutes is because of G&W, or is it just the cost of labor, or equipment. It's almost as if Tri-Met doesn't really want to run a regional rail system, nothing more than light-rail.
They would need more crews and equipment to operate more frequently. The current 45 minute service required 2 trains. 30 minute service requires 3 trains. 15 min service probably needs 4. They have 3 CRC power cars, and the RDCs. But 15 min service would impact freight movements. 30 minute service I see they are able to get a freight thru between passenger trains, but 15 minutes would not give enough of a window.
Always freaked me out there are no drivers
It can be disconcerting.
high technology of USA very long travel host
It is high tech for US, but other countries have had driverless trains for years.

Its called the daylight
It is a Daylight Locomotive, which is more than just the SP4449.
where are the bathrooms?

WES is very comfortable and fun to ride! It's very underrated and could be better, if they extended it into Portland and adjusted the schedule to run more often. They could add more tracks so the trains could pass each other.
I agree, but extending to Portland is pretty much impossible. They shoudl run every 15~20 minutes during rush hour, and every 30 minutes mid-day, but I doubt that would happen. The ride is comfortable and quick and beats traffic on 217 and I-5.
@@subwaymark I was also thinking about how they could make a second WES line into Hillsboro but that’s basically useless. Hillsboro is just another suburb and a WES line there wouldn’t get much ridership.
So cool! I'd forgotten about that. Thank you
You are welcome, I wish it was still here!
Imagine the money it would've generated if they built it from the Airport to Waikiki. Perfect tourist shuttle, would be actually useful, and would bring 🤑
I wish it would go to Waikiki. It is under construction with the airport station to the edge of downtown Honolulu. It may get to Ala Moana somday.
That still is the eventual end goal via extensions. Currently the only mapped out plans they have are to Ala Moana, but they are limited by funding. They have expressed that if they get the funding and political will they want to go to Waikiki. I think it will probably happen once this thing gets to Kakaako and everybody takes a chill pill about it.
They are building it from the airport to ala Moana, which is essentially waikiki... those won't be finished until the 2030s however. The first stage which is now finished is essentially useless. But once they connect the suburbs to the airport which will be done in 2025, alot more people will be riding.
I was there in 1977-1978, it is fascinating to see what has changed, and what looks the same. Nice video. Thanks for posting!
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice.

It is on me as well. It is interesting that the prior color scheme did not last as long as the three strip scheme.
2:35 HMMMM
I come from lyon and i know its not a metro neither a train its a funicular
Line C is not a funicular as there isn't a cable to pull the trains. This part of the line is a rack railway, you can see the rack between the rails. However, part of the line is a normal railway with no rack. Throughout the line it uses third rail for electrical power. It is a hybrid metro.
@@subwaymark nice
@@subwaymarknormally my brother said it's a funicular
@subwaymark also 1 difference I saw the rails in the other lines were different and in this line it's like a normal train track BTW there's a creaking sound at the beggining of the station you should check that out ❤
Wait! I checked in google and its normally a funicular pretty weird @@subwaymark
This is how I remembered them when I was kid. I don't remember the digital horn tho lol just the bells.
